My interest in Art was sparked in my early teens and I have continued to
practice some form or art ever since.
I'm known as Isaac Bane in the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA), and I started attending meetings in 1996 at 16. The SCA proved to be a great thing for my curious, crafty, and artistic nature. I have added Leatherworking, Calligraphy and Illumination,
Inkle/card weaving, Embroidery, Metal casting, Metal Cutwork, Basic
Woodworking, Basic Bookbinding to an already crowded list of crafts and hobbies like ceramics and miniature painting that I was doing before joining.
Over time I have come to spend the most time on studying and creating interruptions of Medieval Illumination
and Calligraphy, while dabbling in the others from time to time. I'm currently researching the techniques and materials used in the process of making Medieval Manuscripts and sharing that knowledge with others.
It was during and right after my stint as local Chronicler that I was nominated, several times, and won a Blackfox Award, the SCAs Newsletter award.
AS 37 - Best Special Issue: Arts and Sciences Issue -Winner (tie)
AS 38 - Best Art: Cover Art Winner (Color Cover)
AS 39 - Best Art: Cover Art: Nominated
I took a break from the SCA from early 2006 to late 2010. Before this
break I held offices at various levels in local and regional groups,
co-autocrated events, taught classes, was a member of several different
guilds, held several different artisan titles from various groups.
During my break I continued my research and in fact my desire to read and research grew. I also did more growing up, eventually starting a family of my own. With my wife as crafty as I am, I figured it might be fun to introduce her to the SCA. So now, we've been playing for a few years, we now have a son.
