My Class Handouts and Other Writtings

Class Handouts:

The following class handouts were written for a series of monthly classes that our Scribal guild put on.  Each handout was usually written in about a months time. I tried to include historical information as well as steps on how to do that months activity.  We started with an overview class and then went through each step in order that most scribes might have used in period. The class on Calligraphy was taught by another, all the rest I was lead teacher.

Manuscript Creation in Period  - This was the first class to give everyone an overview on the entire manuscript making process.
Medieval Brushes
Gilding
Manuscript Pigments - My attempt to cover some of the massive subject that is pigments.
Pen Work - I could find very little actually written about this subject.
Pricking and Ruling
Puzzle Initials -A Scanned copy of the Handout.  I still want to recreate this file and expand on the number of manuscripts looked at.
Quill Pens

Medieval Treatises -  Information on where I've found the medieval treatises I currently use for information.

  1. Greetings! I discovered your site while looking for more information on buckthorn berry paints. Your writeup on this subject is the best I've read. Buckthorn berries don't grow (so far as I know) in the Kingdom of Caid (Southern California), but we sell them on our website, Ancient Earth Pigments. I really like what you have to share, thank you! -- Flavia Beatrice Carmigniani
